                                                                                                 Senior Planner
 

SUMMARY:              

 

Regional planning agency serving 21 city and county governments seeks senior planner to be employed in the area of comprehensive land use planning and development regulations for local governments.  General work in other areas such as demographics, transportation, etc.  Projects assigned up to one year in advance, to be concluded by scheduled completion date.  Strong analytical, research, verbal, and written skills are essential.  This is a middle level position; practical experience is required.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Quality applicants must show copious knowledge in the following areas

- Community development policies and programs, including zoning and development ordinances, projects review, impact fees and capital improvement planning;

- Long range planning and visioning, for both the community and regional levels;

- Basic knowledge of specialty planning and assessments such as transportation, management of environmental and historic resources, and economic development;

- Perform document and project reviews as required by State contracts;

- Maintain datasets of information for various applications;

- Work with local governments in updating their planning and development documents and policies;

- Educate officials and professional staff on planning and development issues;

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Quality applicants will be proficient in the following areas:

- Use of office software, especially spreadsheets, document building and the ability to effectively present information; 

- Interpersonal communication. Applicant must be capable of facilitating meetings and building relationships with a variety of officials and professionals;

- Analytical skills, particularly with statistical data, project research and geospatial information;

- Ability to understand contracts and complete long and short term projects in a timely manner.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 B.S./B.A. in City and/or Regional Planning or a related field

Three years of relevant experience in local, regional or state level planning

The MTRDC Office Environment

· The MTRDC currently employs a staff of eight, most of whom have worked with the RDC for better than 10 years.

· The environment is casual and friendly; tie preferred but not demanded!

· Work is done as individuals or small teams, depending on the project’s nature, but assistance is regularly offered by all.

· Our office is a recently renovated turn-of-the-century building located along Griffin’s main street, and includes a board room, small library, kitchen, and offices to spare.

· We currently operate on PC’s featuring Windows ‘98.

· The MTRDC supports personal development and continuing education for its employees, and will sponsor certain conferences or purchase new resources when possible.
